Salvation Mountain: A Message Of Love
Salvation Mountain is a visionary environment covering a hill in the Colorado Desert in Imperial County, California.
The artwork is made from adobe, straw, and thousands of gallons of lead-free paint. It was created by local resident Leonard Knight and it encompasses numerous murals and areas painted with Christian sayings and Bible verses. Its philosophy was built around the Sinner’s Prayer.
This unique and visionary sculpture is considered a national treasure by many. Both profoundly strange and beautifully accessible, it is worthy of the international acclaim it receives. Coldplay thought so. The British rock band filmed a music video there for their song “Birds” off their seventh studio album A Head Full Of Dreams. The accompanying booklet also features a photo of the band atop of Salvation Mountain.
It was also Leonard’s hope that his message of LOVE will be seen all over the world and that all people everywhere will show more love and compassion for their fellow man. He truly believed that love was the answer to a peaceful and harmonious existence. And it is. That is something we can all agree on, especially in times like these.
