Pamela Love for J.Crew

Being the avid J.Crew shopper that I am, I was excited to receive this month’s J.Crew catalog-slash-magazine which featured a two-page spread on Pamela Love (one of my absolute favorite designers off the The Fashion Fund) and her capsule collection for J.Crew, which went on sale last Thursday (May 17th).

This collaboration is part of J.Crew’s partnership with the 2011 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award recipients and it marks the jeweler’s first incursion into clothing design. The collaborations also include winner Joseph Altuzarra, which came out last month, and Pamela’s fellow runners-up, Creatures of the Wind’s Shane Gabier and Chris Peters, which comes out June 14.

According to Jenna Lyons, all three designers were limited to select materials for their capsule collections with denim evidently being one of their options.

The Collection

  • Pamela Love for J.Crew Lorimer skinny jean ($295)
  • Pamela Love for J.Crew Chevron belt ($135)
  • Pamela Love for J.Crew Lorimer jean jacket ($295)

All items are for sale online and in select J.Crew stores.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of these designers or the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award, you can watch a 6-episode series of the awarding process, rightfully titled: The Fashion Fund, on Hulu. Click Here to watch.

I’m a sucker for outerwear — hence the reason the fall season tickles my fancy. For cold weather I usually go trench or shearling coats, but on cool breezy days I always reach for a good fitted zip-up slicker. I generally keep the color of my coats pretty basic, like cream, brown or navy, but the polyester-linen blend that most slickers are made of favors the chance of rocking a bright color. The one I’m wearing is from ZARA and it features elbow patches with matching side panels and a removable hood, but there are tons of smart slickers out there from other brands like Gant, Oliver Spencer, and Billy Reid. Buy one that fits as good as a suit jacket and wear it with pretty much anything. The best part is that while a slicker will help you survive a showery day, no precipitation is needed to be worn.

Item of Desire
J.Crew Arm Charm
The specialty retailer is giving you some serious arm candy in their March 2012 catalog with an assortment of vibrant women’s enameled and gold-plated bangles.
My favorite is the ram bangle (first one) — hand-enameled Russian gold-plated metal casting with dark brown antiquing set with resin cabochons and faceted glass stones. Boom!
The enameled giraffe bangle is pretty major too.

I Was Here

Leather jacket: Heritage

Shirt: J.Crew

Plaid tie: ALDO

Tie clip: Vintage

Pants: Levi’s

Belt: H&M

Aviator sunglasses: Ray-Ban

Hi-top sneakers: Creative Recreation

The smallest things make the biggest differences. Whether you are sporting a tie for business or pleasure, the result is always the same – it pulls the whole look together. Some call it tartan, others call it plaid, but regardless of what you call it, the pattern that originated thousands of years ago, has become a classic in menswear. The color combinations are edgier and the tie widths have shrunken. Match one with an white oxford shirt and a suit to the office, or team it with a leather jacket and jeans like I did for a weekend hangout. Either way, you’ll be a little more rad in plaid.

What to get a stylish guy for Christmas?

  • Nice tie
  • Credit card holder or small wallet
  • Watch
  • Pair of Ray-Ban aviators (they work on everyone)
  • iPad leather case
  • Belt

No grandpa ties! If you opt for a tie, make sure its no wider than two-and-a-half inches at its widest point.

Brands: Brooks Brothers, J.Crew or Club Monaco.
