New York Fashion Week

IFB Conference 2012

The official Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kicks off today at Lincoln Center, but I came to NY two days early to attend the Independent Fashion Bloggers 2012 Conference at Milk Studios. I’ve only been blogging for a year and some change, so I felt it was vital that I attended IFBCON yesterday, and learn a few things from some of the established and seasoned bloggers in the industry — and of course make new friends along the way. It was an 8-hour conference, which for most that’s a full day of work, and it was filled with a lot of information and caffeine. Here’s the topics they covered:

What Are Bloggers Worth?
Panelists: Susan Cernek of Glamour, Jessie Thorpe of Denimology, Jenni Radosevich of I Spy DIY, La Carmina, Lauren Tesar of Lifebooker, Kat Griffin of Corporette, and Jinna Yang of Grease & Glamour.

Media Goes Mobile
Panelists: Aliza Licht of DKNY, Bryan Grey Yambao of BryanBoy, Tom and Lorenzo of Tom and Lorenzo, Macala Wright of FMM, Karen Moon of Style Musee, and Jess Estrada of Fresh Jess.

Your Blog, Your Dream, or Just The Beginning?
Panelists: Emily Schuman of Cupcakes & Cashmere, Lawrence Schlossman of Sartorially Inclined, Joshua Kissi and Travis Gumbs of Street Etiquette, Sarah Zucker of Farpitzs, Leah Chernikoff of Fashionista, Hilla Ohayon of Fashion Traffic, and Jessie Artigue of Style & Pepper.

Make Your Blog Irresistible
Panelists: Erica Domesek of P.S.-I Made This, Wendy Nguyen of Wendy’s Lookbook, Andy Torres of Style Scrapbook, Connie Wang of Refinery29, Nicolette Mason, Ann Colville Somma of Holier Than Now, and Grace Atwood of Bauble Bar.

Three of the biggest highlights of the day were finally meeting Aliza Licht, the fabulous woman behind the @dkny Twitter handle and Tumblr blog, with whom I’ve been interacting for months, and the person who directly invited me to the DKNY Men’s fashion presentation. Obviously I do a lot of my “networking” online and seeing results like these always assures me how powerful social media really is.

The second highlight was meeting the dapper duo, Tom and Lorenzo, of tomandlorenzo.com. I’m sure you’re familiar with their blog, but if you’re not, then you need to get your sh** together. They’re a dynamic duo with two very contrastive personalities and point-of-views, yet one impeccable, opinionated, and never-biased voice. You should follow them on twitter too, they usually post fashion news and red carpet photos before anybody else.

Finally, my third highlight was sitting down to charge my phone and sparking a conversation with a lovely lady who turns out to be Yuri — the creator of LOOKBOOK.nu! That’s was major for me because I just joined the LOOKBOOK community 2½ weeks ago plus this week I won the LOOKBOOK x PROJECT Contest. It was the perfect time to meet her.

PS: Yes, I carry a phone charger with me. Don’t judge.
